The first version of this consensus statement was approved at the ESO-Karolinska Stroke Update consensus meeting in November 2014 after presentation of the MR CLEAN study and it has then been updated to include articles published on mechanical thrombectomy during 2015.
It contains the recommendations for treatment supported by the European Stroke Organisation (ESO), the European Society of Minimally Invasive Neurological Therapy (ESMINT), the European Society of Neuroradiology (ESNR) and the European Academy of Neurology (EAN).
It also includes an overview and metaanalysis of all randomised trials on mechanical thrombectomy in acute ischemic stroke.
Even though it is a document fundamentally supported by the leading European professional organisations, it may be an excellent support for mechanical thrombectomy management in all SITS countries.
